I went to the Three Rivers/White Mountain Wilderness today.

Here is Sierra Blanca from about twenty miles straight distance or thirty driving to the campground.

I stopped at the petroglyphs and then went to the wilderness area to hike. Animals were not to be found. I saw a bird and heard coyotes. No bears, bear tracks, or other animals. A hunter I met said he had seen some deer and small elk.

There is a full time attendant at the wilderness campground. He lives there. He has the best job in the world. He said he as been there 15 years.

I have not been able to repair my camera yet but a friend gave me his old camera. It is 6mp but my pictures are for the web so that is good. It 10x optical zoom and some nice features. My old one made better movies.

The air was hazy so the landscape photos aren’t very detailed and more distant mountains aren’t visible. It used to be clear a lot. I might have stayed to see the Milky Way but the milky air would have hidden it.

About 10 miles east and I’ll be there. 5 miles is not paved. I think there is more pavement than there used to be.

stopped at the petroglyph area on the way in. These were made by Indians. There are thousands of them in this area. There is a campground, an attendant, rules, trails, and a fee to park there. It is too civilized now. I parked by the road and walked in. With more and more people here I can see that too much traffic and bad behavior is a problem. More people equals less freedom.

Much of the land around here is ranch land. I might ask some of the ranchers or land owners for permission to hike on their land.

There was snow on some high slopes.

Four miles to go on the dirt road.

Then I traveled to the campground next to the wilderness area. Here is the stream near there. I hiked to the North to see one of the other rivers.

There were many horse tracks.

A view to the west from the wilderness. The distant mountains are roughly 30 miles from here.

I went to Goat Canyon. There was no water there. Maybe it flows during the Spring melt. These rocks were interesting.
