Red Sands, Owl

Here is another trip to Red Sands to search for the elusive animal. I borrowed a friend’s camera with 10x zoom. That was to keep some distance from them for safety. I found I could get more wildlife photos since animals wouldn’t run with greater distance. It was in the mid to upper 80’s so water wasn’t a problem.

The animals I’m looking for are potentially dangerous especially since I intend to approach them. This time I took a .357 in case one of them decided to charge and plenty of water. Rattler’s give you a warning and I’ve seldom seen one. Mountain lions live in the desert too and rarely bother people. Coyotes will attack people but it is uncommon.

I seldom get a chance to take pictures of jack rabbits since they are hiding or running. One posed for me. Just then is when the camera batteries ran out. He didn’t stay long enough for me to change the batteries.

These mysterious objects are in the forbidden zone. It is at least 4 miles west to edge of the zone and they are pretty far south. This was taken with 10x zoom.

On the way back I found a track of the animal and a trail. Few of the tracks were distinct but the trail could be followed. The trail disappeared but I saw this flat area. There were many jack rabbits and birds here. I walked across but found no sign of the animals.

These sticks are covered with something. I think insects built this. It is near tracks and trail. On the way back to my truck I saw people in the off road recreation area riding atv’s. Here is the sunset.
