Mountains, Peace

A drive and walk in the mountains.

I turned off of the paved road to the observatory and went about a mile down a dirt road. Then I walked into the woods a few hundred feet. There were sounds like branches hitting each other. I think it was deer or elk hitting or rubbing their antlers together or on trees. Maybe for rank or territory or to rub off velvet. Not intending to stay long I explored the area around here instead of going far.

Wild iris. A clearing near the dirt road and truck had many of these ready to bloom.

Several types of flowers grew here. There were animal burrows and a ring of rocks for a campfire. Then I went toward the antler sounds and they stopped.

This is a pile of pine cone pieces. There are holes that I think are animal burrows. Squirrels maybe. Animals eat seeds and drop the rest. The close up shows the cores of some pine cones.
