I decided to hike near water so I headed to the mountains. After preparation and the hour and twenty minute or more drive I only had 2 or three hours before sunset. I stopped at the lake. Then I drove farther and saw a road to some campgrounds. I prefer to go where there aren’t trails but I walked down a trail intent on going off of the trail later.

The stream is about 5 or 6 feet wide in some places. I walked along the trail and stream and started up the hill to go into the next valley. There were indistinct tracks and droppings on the hill. Elk I think. It was getting late, the hill was steep, and this is bear country so I decided to go back. I stopped here and ate. Thanks everyone for beef jerky and trail mix. I have not seen a bear or a mountain lion on my hikes. I found a bear’s skeleton years ago.
