Christmas 2007

Snowy Evergreen

This is Snowy Evergreen. He is my first character for an animation. This animation was for my 2007 Christmas card for family and friends. Snowy is one of Santa’s elves. He discovers that a mistake has been made and has an adventure to correct it.

Update 2015. I’m starting with Blender and I hope to do this movie.

Due to technical difficulties and the time required I did not complete the movie for Christmas 2007. It took about 2 months to create Snowy’s head. Most of that was learning and experimenting. I made another more realistic head while studying. I think I will give him a more real looking nose or a big cartoon nose. Maybe the movie will be ready for 2008.

Wireframes of Snowy’s head and a picture of the complete character and some trees are shown below. The head on the left is the one I made by hand. The other two show subdivision surfaces. A subdivision surface is created by the modeling program (trueSpace 5) by dividing each polygon on a model. This smoothes the model and is often used in animation for characters. I made a body for him and succeeded in animating some facial expressions. I was not able to rig (attach the model to an animation skeleton) him properly. I have trueSpace 7 now but I have not learned to use it yet.
