Elegant Bridge

This project needs some work to finish it. I hope to make an animation of driving along it.

The bridge is not intended to be realistic or something that could really be built but is purely for the beauty of its design.

Things that need to be done are:
o Rebuild the road with non-nurb methods.
o Put asphalt texture on road.
o Put a car on road for scale.
o Add a beach and shore features to the islands.
o Add cliff textures to the steep parts of islands.
o Less crisp shadows.

The sky is a hemispherical photograph of the sky wrapped around a dome. The dome started as half of a sphere by I made it flatter because that gives more depth to the view.

The water is a flat plane with a multilayer texture. One layer has a color and a bump map of water waves and a second layer has a different color and different wave bump map. The second layer has a transparency mask to show it in some places and the first layer in others. That is what creates the light and dark areas.

The islands are cubes with parts of the top pulled up or pushed down to make a land like form. Their textures are aerial photos of ground wrapped onto the shapes.

The road is giving me trouble. The kink in the near part is not in the model. It is a nurb (non-uniform rational B-spline) and they don’t render correctly. I have a road texture with asphalt and lines for it.

The bridge towers are 3D models. I made them from an oval with the sweep (extrude) tool and some cylinders.

I used a touch of ground fog effect to make distant objects less distinct for a feeling of scale and to blur the sky-ocean horizon.

I probably won’t try to make a driving movie with this until I have other software and learn it. I have Messiah Studio for animation. Powerful but complicated so it will take time to learn.
